Bernard is a scientist (organic chemist) who has worked in industry and corporate finance at a senior level (CEO, Chairman) for many years. He has more than forty years’ corporate business and finance experience at Smiths Industries, Baring Brothers, Robert Fleming, J.P. Morgan Chase and Evercore.

He has also been active for many years in the charity world with a particular interest in education, science, heritage and the arts.

He was previously Vice Chairman of JPMorgan and CEO of Evercore Partners International, where he remains the Chairman Emeritus.

He is a retired member of the Council of the University of Oxford and a member of the University’s Remuneration Committee, Finance Committee, Mathematical, Physical and Life Sciences Division Board and Medical Sciences Division Board.

He was Chairman of the Ashmolean Museum Board of Visitors for ten years until 2019 and is Chairman of the Royal Commission for the Great Exhibition of 1851, Chairman of Garsington Opera, Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Royal Society.

He is Deputy Steward of Oxford University, Deputy Lieutenant of Oxfordshire and an Honorary Fellow of St. John’s College. He holds an MA from the University of Oxford and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry.

In the last 40 plus years, William has worked for corporate institutions, private clients and charities across Oxfordshire, London and the regions to give them strategic and sustainable property portfolio advice.

From development to asset management, performance analysis to acquisitions, his work covers commercial, residential, land and estates. He has detailed knowledge of planning and negotiations with local authorities in both England and Scotland.

As a director of Thomas White Oxford, the development company of St John’s College, Oxford, he is responsible for leading the team for Oxford North, the major new innovation district for Oxford.

Matt has more than 25 years’ experience and previously worked for North West Cambridge as Finance Director, Argent Group as Head of Finance, Euromoney and Grant Thornton.

Zoe studied Modern History at Merton College (matriculated 1992), then qualified as an accountant with PriceWaterhouseCoopers and began a career in industry. Between 2001 and 2008 she worked at the British Museum, for the latter four years as Director of Planning and Projects. She then joined Oaklands College, initially as Deputy Principal, and was appointed to Principal in 2011 with some 800 staff and £32 million annual turnover.

Zoe was appointed Principal Bursar of St John’s College in March 2021. Zoe is responsible for the College’s assets, including its buildings and their contents, the investment portfolio that supports the College’s teaching and research activities, and for HR for non-academic staff.

Kay is the Emeritus Dr Lee’s Professor of Anatomy in the Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics and Co-Director of the MDUK Neuromuscular Centre at the University of
Oxford. Until recently, she was Associate Head of the Medical Sciences Division at Oxford. Her research interests lie in the molecular analysis and development of treatments for human genetic diseases, particularly Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), and the application of genomics for the analysis of neurological disorders and gene–environment interactions. She has co-founded biotech companies as a conduit for the delivery of therapies for DMD to the clinic.

She has published more than 400 papers and won numerous awards for her work. Kay is a founding Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences and was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 2003. She was a Governor of the Wellcome Trust from 2008 and Deputy Chairman from 2013 to 2017. She now serves on several Boards in Life Sciences including the GRL Board of the Sanger Institute in Cambridge. She was the recipient of the Women in to Science and Engineering (WISE) Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014 and in 2008 was made Dame Commander of the British Empire for services to science.

Andrew joined St John’s College in 1990 as Fellow and Tutor in Physiology, with responsibility for students in medicine and biomedical sciences. In 2009, he became Principal Bursar of the College, where his role was to assume overall responsibility for the College’s endowment funds, for all areas of non-academic staffing of the college and the college’s main buildings and other properties. 

During his time as Bursar, Andrew saw the endowment funds of the College rise from £331 million to over £606 million in July 2020. Major projects undertaken during his tenure have been a new, purpose-built nursery, to support child-care arrangements for the college, a new addition of a Study Centre building to the main library and numerous renovation projects. Andrew has direct experience of acquiring new real estate properties for the college’s investments, with oversight of purchases in the USA and Germany, as well as the UK.
 
Andrew is also a Professor of Neuroscience in the University of Oxford’s Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics.

During his time as Bursar, he has continued with many of his teaching responsibilities for the university and conducted research into the neurophysiology of vision, particularly the sense of depth and space that is achieved with stereoscopic viewing.

His research continues to have international recognition. Andrew is now a Senior Researcher at the Otto-von-Guericke University in Magdeburg Germany.

Jan joined St John’s as a Tutorial Fellow in 2012. Together with other subject tutors, he is responsible for teaching all the undergraduates in Mathematics and its joint schools (with Statistics, Computer Science and Philosophy) at the College. In his other roles at St John’s, he is involved with the SCR and Buttery teams and has sat on College’s Estates and Finance Committee, as well as the Bursarial review panel.
 
Jan is also a Professor of Mathematics at the University of Oxford’s Mathematical Institute, where he is member of the Mathematical and Computational Finance group, as well as the Stochastic Analysis group. He holds PhD from University of Warsaw and University of Paris, and before coming to Oxford, he worked at Imperial College London. Jan focuses on developing mathematical tools which can help in understanding and quantifying model uncertainty in financial mathematics and other fields.

He works at the crossroads of probability theory, statistics, optimal transport theory, optimization and data science. His work has been supported by the prestigious European Research Council grant. Jan serves as an Associate Editor at several leading international journals in mathematical finance and probability and was elected a member of the Council of the Bachelier Finance Society.

Jan collaborates with researchers worldwide and has recently held a visiting position at the Sydney Mathematical Research Institute.

Jason joined St John’s College as the Tutorial Fellow in Biochemistry in Michaelmas Term 2009. He organises teaching for the biochemists and tutors undergraduates across several life science courses, and also provides a series of lectures on protein structure and biomolecular NMR spectroscopy.

In addition, he leads a research group in Oxford's Department of Biochemistry investigating the structure and function of proteins with particular focus on the molecular virology of the influenza A virus and the molecular mechanisms of protein chaperones.

Victoria Collett joined Thomas White Oxford, the development company of St John’s College, as Development Director in April 2022 to deliver Oxford North, the £700 million new global innovation district.

Victoria joined from Legal & General Capital where she headed development for its Suburban Build to Rent business, building-up a portfolio of projects with its sister companies and local authority partners including the North Horsham masterplan in West Sussex. Victoria is a chartered surveyor with 20 years’ development and regeneration experience specialising in development management and financial advisory for the public and private sectors.
 
Victoria has worked across England and Wales as a consultant, including at CBRE and Navigant Consulting, acting for many public bodies and third sector organisations, to achieve their real estate objectives through projects including the Canning Town & Custom House masterplan and the regeneration of South Kilburn. She spent eight years in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, as lead advisor to Abu Dhabi Municipality’s Investment Office, with a development portfolio of more than forty projects. She delivered projects including Al Qana and Sheikha Fatima Park, which represented step-changes in the city’s real estate offer.

In 2022, Thomas White Oxford entered into a 50:50 joint venture partnership with Canadian-based Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, with developer Stanhope to deliver Oxford North with one million sq ft of laboratories and workspace, along with amenities and infrastructure on Central and Eastside. This is in addition to its residential development partnership with Hill Group to deliver 317 new homes on Canalside, to the south of the A40.
